Minix 3.

Dr. Andrew Tanenbaum’s Microkernel OS - Minix - which was originally designed purely as an educational tool, is now being converted into a usable OS.

From the website:
MINIX 1 and 2 were intended as teaching tools; MINIX 3 adds the new goal of being usable as a serious system on resource-limited and embedded computers and for applications requiring high reliability

Minix 3 is Open-source and being made available for download at: http://www.minix3.org/download . The MINIX 3 license is a clone of the Berkeley (BSD) license.

Minix 3 has been around since mid 2005.
